			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Maryland firmly established as one of the most Democratic states in the country.  Governor Martin O’Malley easily defeated former Governor Robert Ehrlich by 14 points.</p>
<p>The Republicans lost two seats in the Maryland State Senate to drop their number to twelve out of forty-seven members.</p>
<p>In the House of Delegates, the Republican increased their membership from 37 to 43 members out of 141.</p>
<p>Republican State Senator Andy Harris defeated incumbent Congressman Frank Kratovil in the race for District 1 in the United States House of Representatives.  There are now two Republicans out of eight U.S. House members from Maryland.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Anne</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> Arundel County</span></p>
<p>Incumbent County Executive John Leopold was reelected. The referendum to allow slots at Arundel Mills Mall easily passed.</p>
<p>Anne  Arundel County will have five new council members on its seven member council.  The newly elected council members are John Grasso, Derek Fink, Dick Ladd, Chris Trumbauer and Jerry Walker. They will join incumbents Jamie Benoit and Daryl Jones.</p>
<p>All of Anne Arundel County’s state senators were reelected.  In District 30, former Republican Delegate Herb McMillan defeated Democratic incumbent Virginia Clagett.  In District 33A, County Councilwoman, Cathy Vitale won the delegate spot vacated by James King.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Baltimore</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> City</span></p>
<p>Bill Ferguson will replace George Della in the Maryland Senate.  New Baltimore City members in the House of Delegates are Mary Washington, Keiffer Mitchell and Luke Clippinger.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Baltimore</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> County</span></p>
<p>Democratic Councilman Kevin Kamenetz defeated Republican Ken Holt in the Baltimore County Executive race.  Newly elected council members are Democrats Tom Quirk, Vicki Almond and Cathy Bevins and Republicans Todd Huff and David Marks. Incumbent Democrats Ken Oliver and John Olszewski were reelected.</p>
<p>Delegate J.B. Jennings is replacing Andy Harris, who was elected to Congress, as the state senator in District 7. All other incumbent state senators were reelected in Baltimore County.</p>
<p>The newly elected delegates from Baltimore  County are Republican Kathy Szeliga in District 7 and Republican John Cluster in District 8.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Harford</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> County</span></p>
<p>Incumbent County Executive David Craig was reelected as was the entire county council.  Republican Glen Glass of District 34A is the sole new member of the House of Delegates from Harford  County.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Howard</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> County</span></p>
<p>Incumbent Democrat Ken Ulman defeated Republican challenger Trent Kittleman for County Executive.  All five incumbent council members were reelected.  There were no changes in Howard County’s legislative delegation.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Montgomery</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> County</span></p>
<p>Incumbent County Executive Ike Leggett was reelected. The two newly elected Montgomery County council members are Delegate Craig Rice and Hans Riemer.  Incumbents Marc Elrich, Nancy Flooreen, George Leventhal, Roger Berliner, Phil Andrews. Nancy Navarro and Valerie Ervin were reelected.</p>
<p>Newly elected Montgomery County state senators are Karen Montgomery (District 14) and Roger Manno (District 19).  New incoming House of Delegates members from Montgomery County are Craig Zucker (District 14), Eric Luedkte (District 14), Aruna Miller (District 15), Arianna Kelly (District 16), Sam Arora (District 19), Bonnie Cullison (District 19) and Shane Robinson (District 39).</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Prince   George</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;">’s County</span></p>
<p>Rushern Baker ran unopposed for County  Executive.  Incumbent council members Will Campos, Eric Olson, Ingrid Turner and Andrea Fletcher Harrison were reelected.  The newly elected members of the Prince George’s County Council are Mary Lehman, Leslie Johnson, Karen Toles, Obie Patterson and Mel Franklin.</p>
<p>Victor Ramirez is leaving the House of Delegates to become the state senator for District 47. Delegate Joanne Benson will be the new state senator from District 24.</p>
<p>The new members of the House of Delegates from Prince George’s County are Geraldine Valentino-Smith, Tiffany Alston and Michael Summers.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Western  Maryland</span><span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span></p>
<p>Delegate Chris Shank will be the senator for District 2.  Democrat Ron Young defeated incumbent Senator Alex Mooney in District 3.  In District 5, former Delegate Joe Getty will take the seat of retiring Senator Larry Haines.</p>
<p>The new delegates from Western Maryland are Neil Parrott (District 2B), Patrick Hogan (District 3A), Kathy Afzali (District 4A), Kelly Schulz (District 4A), and Justin Ready (District 5A).</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Southern  Maryland</span></p>
<p>In District 27B, Republican Mark Fisher defeated incumbent Democrat Sue Kullen.  In District 28, Democrat C.T. Wilson will replace retiring Delegate Murray Levy.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Eastern  Shore</span></p>
<p>In District 38, Delegate Jim Mathias defeated Republican Michael James to succeed retiring Republican Senator Lowell Stoltzfus.</p>
<p>The newly elected delegates from the eastern shore are Republicans Jay Jacobs (District 36), Steve Hershey (District 36), Charles Otto (District 38A) and Mike McDermott (District 38B).</p>
