Criminal Defense

Criminal Law Our attorneys have handled criminal and serious traffic offenses throughout the State of Maryland, from Frederick to Ocean City. They have substantial trial experience in all of the State Courts: District, Juvenile, and Circuit.

As former Assistant State’s Attorneys for Baltimore City, James T. Zois and Daniel C. Beck have tried cases both as prosecutors and as defense attorneys. As a result, our attorneys have formed good relationships with judges and prosecutors throughout Maryland, which is significant when handling a criminal matter.

We are proud of an excellent track record in defending criminal charges against our clients. Because every case and each factual scenario is different, we understand that there are many different ways to handle a particular client’s case. Some cases can be disoposed of after an investigation of the underlying facts and witnesses and through a productive dialogue with the State’s Attorney. Other cases can be disposed of through alternative means such as diversion programs offered by some State’s Attorney’s Offices. Some cases can be disposed of through pre-trial motions, such as a motion to suppress evidence unlawfully seized by police officers. And some cases require that we negotiate a favorable plea agreement for our client, if that is in his best interest. Of course, some cases simply must go to trial, where we have jury trial and bench trial experience.
